The Board

Magenta Living is led by a team of Board Directors who are appointed on a skills basis. The Board is responsible for providing long-term strategic direction for the company.


David Clark - Chair

David is a Justice of the Peace and has significant experience as a Board member and Chair across the public and private sectors, particularly Health and Further Education. He is currently Chair of Hip & Harmony CIC, Chair of Neston Community Youth Centre (a Registered Charity). He is also a volunteer driver for Ellesmere Port and Neston Community Transport.

Nick Gerrard - Vice Chair

Nick is an experienced specialist in planning, economic development, urban regeneration and public/private partnership having worked in senior positions at several leading North West organisations. He currently is Growth and Prosperity Programme Director at Blackpool Council. Nick is also a Charity Trustee and Chair of Governors at his local primary school.

Geoff Broadhead

Geoff is a qualified accountant with executive level experience in the public and private sector. He has experience in management of corporate services in large public and private sectors bodies. 

He has led the development of large scale estate reconfiguration and investment programmes and has worked on the implementation of large scale ICT programmes.

He has served on a number of bodies as advisor, executive member and trustee and as well as his role on the Magenta Living Board is a non-executive Director of Clatterbridge Cancer Centre NHS Trust and a member of the Merseyside Pension Fund Pension Board.

Matthew Brown

Matthew is the Chief Executive of a values-led financial management consultancy and accountancy practice that specialises in supporting the social economy. A qualified accountant, he works with many boards and leadership teams of social enterprises and charitable organisations on financial strategy. Matthew is passionate about promoting an economy where social impact and environmental sustainability are as valued by businesses as financial success.

Myles Edwards

Myles is an experienced Executive and Non-Executive Director with extensive governance, risk management and commercial experience in mutual and social enterprise organisations within both the financial services and healthcare sectors. He is currently a member of Royal London’s Independent Governance Committee and Trustee and Treasurer of Age UK Wirral. Myles is a member of the Group Audit and Risk Committee and committed to assisting the Magenta Living team deliver excellent customer service, maximise positive social impact and progress towards the 2050 zero carbon homes target. 

Ann-Louise Gilmore

Ann-Louise is a Building Surveyor with over 20 years senior management experience in the social housing sector; currently working in the private sector with Small and Medium Enterprises, leading them in developing strategies for their businesses to grow and become more efficient.

Ann-Louise brings experience from both the public and the private sector and is passionate about the tenant’s experience within social housing, having previously been a council tenant, pre-stock transfer. She is keen to develop environments to maximise opportunity, whether that be to individuals, neighbourhoods or businesses.

Susan Goodman

Susan has worked in social housing for over 30 years in a variety of senior positions including working at the former Housing Corporation for 22 years.  She has experience of working for housing associations and an Arms Length Management Organisation to provide high quality housing service to those in need and the homeless.

Susan is a member of the Institute of Housing and currently carries out a number of Non Executive Board roles.  Susan is passionate about working as part of the Magenta Living team to deliver excellent service to tenants.

Sharon Grover

Sharon is an experienced Housing Solicitor having worked with a great number of Liverpool and Wirral based Housing Associations during her career. She brings to the role her vast experience of asset management, housing management and audit and risk through her legal and housing roles. She currently carries out a number of non-executive roles and is an active member of Magenta Living’s Board and Enterprise and Development Committee. Sharon is passionate about the vital role Social Landlords have to play and is a firm believer that their role should not be limited to the provision of good quality housing, but that they also have a key role to play in helping to create and sustain communities.

Liam Kelly

Liam is a social entrepreneur and Chief Executive of a community business operating throughout the Liverpool City Region (LCR). He has been a member of the LCR Town Centre Commission and Land Commission, both of which looked at systemic challenges in Wirral; and more recently how to respond to the Covid-19 pandemic. He has worked on a number of grassroots community regeneration projects over the past 10 years, including acting as Chair of the Baltic Triangle Area CIC since 2016. Liam was born in Wirral, attended school in Wallasey and further education in Birkenhead. He is passionate about Wirral’s future and believes that despite its rich heritage, its greatest days are ahead.

Stephen Penlington

Stephen is a Chief Executive and Director of a building society the values of which are closely aligned with those of Magenta Living as a socially responsible organisation. Stephen has vast experience of corporate governance, finance, treasury management and risk management. Stephen is also a trustee of two charities.

Gordon Ronald

Gordon is Chartered Surveyor with over 25 years’ experience in the private and public sectors of construction, property asset management, development, regeneration and procurement. He also is involved in providing strategic technical advice on the restoration of Heritage Assets to the Houses of Parliament.

Gordon has lived on the Wirral for over 20 years and committed to the provision of good quality affordable housing for all.

Mike Turner

Mike brings extensive knowledge having worked within the housing sector for many years. Mike is a qualified Quantity Surveyor and has worked for some of the big construction companies including Lovell where he was a Regional Director. Mike works closely with Liverpool John Moores University Faculty of the Built Environment on a voluntary basis and advises on course content and University / Employer interface. He is also a Trustee of Tranmere Rovers in the Community and a member of Magenta Living’s Enterprise and Development Committee.

Andrew McCullagh

Co-optee to Group Audit and Risk Committee

Andy is currently a Head of Enterprise Risk Management at Coop Funeralcare and has substantial risk management, internal audit and governance experience within financial services, public sectors and cooperative organisations. His areas of specialism include operational, enterprise and strategic risk management, internal audit, business continuity and risk event management; outsourcing arrangements and the development of governance frameworks. He is a graduate with both post-graduate and professional qualifications in Internal Audit and Management and has been a member of the Institute of Internal Auditors for 25 years.
